Platinum Rainbow
$45.00

🌈Bold | Expressive | Celebratory

This special assigned pooling colorway was created to honor Pride Month and the vibrant beauty of living authentically. A sophisticated platinum gray background provides the perfect canvas for a striking rainbow pooling section, allowing flashes of color to emerge in a purposeful, eye-catching pattern as you knit. Dyed alongside it was a matching platinum tonal skein. The tonals were dyed in the same pan with the platinum portion of the assigned pooling skeins to make a perfectly paired set.

Dyed on a luxurious single-ply sock weight base, this yarn combines elegance and joy in equal measure. The soft silver tones symbolize strength, resilience, and unity, while the rainbow pooling section creates a bold visual statement celebrating diversity, inclusion, and pride. Every stitch becomes part of a larger design, much like every individual contributes to the colorful fabric of a community.

Perfect for shawls and accessories, this colorway creates a project that is both beautiful and meaningful—a wearable reminder that love, identity, and self-expression deserve to be celebrated every day of the year.

This listing is for a 2 skein bundle: 1 tonal platinum and 1 platinum with rainbow section.

Hope & Healing
$25.00

💜Compassionate | Resilient | Restorative

Hope & Healing is a teal and purple variegated yarn created as a gentle tribute to strength, survival, and the long, personal journey toward healing. Teal and purple move together throughout the skein, honoring suicide prevention and awareness, as well as advocacy for the prevention of sexual assault and domestic violence.

This colorway is meant to hold space for difficult stories while also reflecting courage, connection, and hope. The shifting blend of teal and purple creates a meaningful palette for shawls, scarves, hats, and comfort knits—projects made for remembrance, support, or quiet personal reflection.

Whether you’re stitching in honor of someone you love, raising awareness, or creating something that feels grounding and hopeful, Hope & Healing is a reminder that no one should have to walk through pain alone.

Purple Mountain's Reign
$25.00

⛰️Misty | Atmospheric | Untamed

Purple Mountain's Reign captures the mood of a Vermont mountain range disappearing into a summer rainstorm. A soft purple-gray background evokes low-hanging clouds and drifting fog, while deeper washes of violet spread across the skein like rain-soaked ridgelines fading in and out of view through the mist.

This variegated colorway is inspired by those dramatic moments when storm clouds settle over the Green Mountains, muting the landscape into layers of lavender, slate, and shadow. The gentle shifts between pale and saturated purple create depth and movement, producing fabric that feels both moody and serene.

Perfect for shawls, sweaters, and accessories, Purple Mountain's Reign brings the quiet beauty of rain-drenched peaks and foggy mountain vistas to every stitch. It's a colorway for those who find beauty not just in sunshine, but in the wild, mysterious weather that gives Vermont its character.

  • "Can we just start with the yarn is the most gorgeous colors! You cannot find yarn with these colors. Ordering was as easy as it gets, so was delivery - and it was packaged so nicely! The whole experience is top notch! So much so I ordered again! And truly, the colors cannot be found anywhere else! "

  • "Beautiful yarn , great quality and great service. I highly recommend the company! "

    Wendy A., Caterpillar Crew Member

  • "The colors are gorgeous and the yarn is so soft. It’s almost too nice to knit socks with as the colors NEED to be seen; so it may have to become a one skein shawl. "

    Julie M., Caterpillar Crew Member

  • "Stunning!! I have not been able to use it but admire it nightly in my calming moment before I put little one to bed. Could not recommend more! "

    Priscilla J., Caterpillar Crew Member

  • "Vibrant, joyful yarn with the sweetest variegation — perfect for socks! I’m finishing my second pair of socks with this colorway, and it has been an absolute delight from start to finish. The pink is beautifully vibrant, and the way it shifts into purples, lilacs, and little pops of magenta reminds me of those pastel Valentine candy hearts — soft, playful, and nostalgic. It knitted up into the prettiest stripes and speckles without pooling, and the fabric feels smooth, consistent, and bouncy. I paired it with a white toe, and the contrast is gorgeous. I’m planning to add yellow and mint next, and this yarn takes coordinating colors really well. The skein arrived beautifully packaged (just like my previous order), and the quality has been consistent across all the colorways I’ve tried from this shop. I can see the love and care that goes into these batches — it shows in the dye work and in the way it behaves on the needles. If you’re looking for a cheerful, high-energy yarn for socks or accessories, this colorway is truly special. I’ll definitely be ordering more! "

Hi, I'm Vicky.

When I'm not working as an Emergency Department nurse, you'll usually find me with knitting needles in hand, dreaming up new color combinations, or in the dye studio creating the next batch of yarn for The Wooly Caterpillar.

What started as a creative outlet quickly became something much bigger. I wanted to create yarn that was beautiful, dependable, and inspiring to knit with—yarn that would make fiber enthusiasts excited to jump into their next project.

Today, every skein of Fox & Owl Dye Lab yarn is hand dyed by me in small batches here in Vermont. Many of our colorways are inspired by the Green Mountains, the changing seasons, memorable personalities we've met along the way, and causes close to our hearts.

We believe that exceptional yarn begins with exceptional materials. That's why we carefully select soft, mulesing-free wool bases that offer beautiful stitch definition and become treasured garments you'll reach for year after year.

The Wooly Caterpillar may be a small family business, but we're committed to providing the kind of quality and customer service that keeps knitters coming back. If you ever have a question or encounter an issue, you'll be speaking directly with the people who dyed, labeled, packed, and shipped your yarn.

Thank you for supporting our dream and allowing us to be part of your creative journey.

Welcome to The Caterpillar Crew,

Vicky & Brian
