I don’t understand yarn weights - HELP!

This free chart will guide you through all the different yarn weights, what size needles or hooks are recommended for each weight, and what that yarn is most commonly used for. These are just the basics of using yarn, but it is a great place to get started if you’re new to knitting or crochet. Beginners to highly skilled artisans - we all need a little help now and then and this reference guide is here to help.
How do I get my order?
There is more than one way to get your hands on our yarn! For those who live nearby (Peru, VT) or the general vicinity, you can choose Local Pickup - there is no charge for shipping when choosing this option and you can pick up your yarn at your convenience (just shoot us an email and we’ll make arrangements and give you the address).
If you live farther away and would like us to ship your order, we use USPS to send our products. Shipping is calculated at the time of checkout. Orders of $75 or more get FREE SHIPPING! Items purchased will be shipped out as soon as we can get all our orders processed and over to the post office (usually by the Tuesday following the release, at the latest).
What is your return policy?
Buying yarn online is a huge leap of faith - we understand that you can’t see or feel our yarn before you buy, which can make things a bit…nerve wracking. Please know that your satisfaction is very important to us! We work hard to produce our amazing yarns, and yet occasionally something goes awry by the time our yarn arrives at your door. Whatever the issue is, please contact us at woolycaterpillarvt@gmail.com so we can make things right. Let us work with you to come up with a solution that will make you happy. In the end, we want you to feel good about your purchase and thoroughly enjoy your new yarn.
The basics of our return policy:
Condition: yarn that you want to return must be in new, unused condition (not caked)
Time frame: within 60 days of your purchase date
Returns accepted in-person or via post office.
Exchanges: exchanges can be done if yarn is in new, unused condition.
Where do you source your yarn?
Our yarn comes from trusted supplier Knomad. Knomad works with a partner mill in Peru and uses only mulesing free and ethically sourced yarn. Find out more at knomadyarn.com
Do you have a physical store?
We do not have a bricks & mortar store at this time. We rely solely on our website for sales.
